Commit to Effective Leadership and Teamwork
JCH Associates’ Apollo 13 will make your team members as effective as the crew of the Apollo 13! This innovative, action-packed behavior change experience uses the Universal Studios movie “Apollo 13” as a stunning illustration of the power of effective leadership and teamwork. These skills are what saved the lives of the real-life Apollo 13 crew, whose story is depicted in the movie. Participants also learn the Eight Building Blocks of Effective Teamwork and of Effective Leadership. They use these concepts to observe, assess, and discuss the skills modeled in the movie; apply the skills to real-life team situations; and sustain improvement back on the job. After Apollo 13, your team members will be enlightened, enthusiastic, and better able to:
- Lead individuals and teams to
solve challenging issues
- Identify teamwork bottlenecks and opportunities,
and develop strategies to improve both leadership and team
performance
- Handle
crises effectively
- Understand the power of a clear vision
- Accept personal commitment
and responsibility for achieving team goals
Apollo 13 participants learn the practical principles and skills that will help them improve their levels of teamwork. The program begins when each participant receives a clear Lucite cube containing eight color-coded wooden blocks that represent the Eight Building Blocks of Effective Teamwork and of Effective Leadership. Participants discuss these 16 key elements and complete action exercises. Then they watch the complete “Apollo 13” movie, stopping numerous times to discuss the skills observed.
Following the movie, participants internalize the 16 key leadership
and teamwork skills by analyzing how four leaders and three
teams performed during the movie. Next, participants apply
the lessons
learned to their own real-life leadership and teamwork issues.
They use the building blocks to frame the discussion, and each
member selects the one that would have the most dramatic impact
on the team or leader.
Finally, the team develops a specific action plan for implementing
the necessary changes. Back on the job, participants use the
building block cubes to continuously reinforce their newly
learned teamwork
and leadership strategies.
Apollo 13 is most effective for members of intact work teams from all areas and levels within your organization.
Apollo 13 is typically implemented as a one- to 1.5-day workshop for groups of 12 to 30 team members. It is also appropriate for non-team members, and for larger groups including large group manager meetings. Discussion and improvement action planning is tailored to your company’s current challenges and opportunities.
